In May 2009, five students from Columbia University are going to Kenya to document the work of The Sanam Vaziri Quraishi Foundation. In Salabwek, a village in Kenya’s Masai Mara region, SVQF is working closely with local organizations as well as other international aid organizations to help Salabwek help pull itself out of poverty.

Today, we travelled back to Nairobi from Salabwek. The car ride was much shorter than I thought it would be—with about three stops (for souvenir shopping, bank needs, to see the Rift Valley, etc.) we made it in about 4 hours. We went to a shopping center where everyone checked their internet for the first time in TWO WEEKS! And, we ate at a wonderful chain-restaurant called Java House. It’s sort of like the Starbucks of Nairobi. It was delicious—and a nice vibe inside too.
