Chantal is studying international relations and Middle East studies at Brown. She has a radio show on Brown Student Radio and enjoys making radio documentaries. Chantal spent last summer studying Arabic in Damascus, and after Students of the World, she's off to Lebanon to intern at a development NGO through next semester. Chantal enjoys gardening and winter clothing.

Sam is studying history and economics at Brown. When not making documentaries in developing countries, he devotes much of his time to writing for the Brown Daily Herald and searching for decent Mexican food in Rhode Island. Last summer Sam interned at the Los Angeles Times. After his SOW trip, he'll return to L.A. for a month before heading back east to lead a Brown outdoor leadership training group.
Jessica Chermayeff

Jessica studies cultural anthropology, Arabic and documentary video/photography at Brown. Before college she interned at Magnum Photos in New York and traveled to Nicaragua to teach a children's Polaroid workshop. In Providence she did the same for high schoolers at New Urban Arts. She is currently studying abroad in Morocco, learning classical and Moroccan Arabic. After living with a Moroccan family and putting down roots in Rabat, she hopes to travel through Morocco and the Arab world, working on projects where the cameras are not in just her hands. In the meantime, Jess is off to India with SOW and hopes to finish her senior year at Brown designing Clerestory magazine and working on video projects.

Sarah is concentrating in modern culture and media at Brown. Next semester she will be studying abroad with the FAMU Film Production Program in Prague. Sarah writes and performs spoken-word poetry, and she has been on a national poetry slam team as well as HBO's Russel Simmons Presents Def Poetry. She teaches spoken word after-school classes at a public high school in Providence and works in the summer as a counselor for the Center for Talented Youth. Sarah loves rain in New York City and sunshine in Providence.

Evan is studying international development at Brown. She is a Writing Fellow, and is the executive director and producer of a documentary film on civil rights tourism. Evan took the spring semester off to work for an international development NGO in India. She speaks Spanish, can read Hebrew and Hindi, and is capable of conversational guitar. She really enjoys reading the constitution.
Sonya Wyrobek

Sonya is concentrating in neuroscience at Brown, with a special focus on the anthropology of science. Her favorite part of neuroscience research is doing surgical procedures. Last summer she volunteered in an orthopedic surgery unit at a rural hospital in Nicaragua. She is a certified massage practitioner, a trained doula and has interned with a home-birth midwife in San Francisco. At Brown, Sonya has led The Female Sexuality Workshop and a Brown outdoor leadership training trip. Sonya likes to do aikido, sing along to anything at all and use power tools - especially chainsaws.
